It came down to the last play, but Centennial Eagles was on the wrong end of a 7-5 defeat to South Fork on Monday. South Fork trailed 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jones doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring three runs.
Centennial Eagles opened up scoring in the first inning.
Centennial Eagles knotted the game up at four in the top of the fifth inning. Thomas Freitas singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.
South Fork scored four runs in the second inning. The big inning for South Fork came thanks to a walk by Kloska, a single by Wilson, and an error on a ball put in play by Mottola.
Hayden earned the victory on the mound for South Fork. He lasted one inning, allowing two hits and one run while striking out one and walking one.
Joey Reiprecht took the loss for Centennial Eagles JV. He allowed one hit and one run, walking one.
Jones started the game for South Fork. He lasted five innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out six Brian O’Shea started the game for the Centennial Eagles JV. He surrendered four runs on four hits over three innings, striking out five
Michael Waldrop went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Centennial Eagles in hits. O’Shea led Centennial Eagles with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with seven stolen bases.
South Fork collected six hits. Corcoran and Wilson each managed multiple hits for South Fork. South Fork was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Kloska had the most chances in the field with eight.
